Andrew Roe is a Professor of Molecular Microbiology at the University of Glasgow, where he has been a faculty member since 2006. After completing his PhD under Professor Ian Booth at the University of Aberdeen, where he investigated the effects of weak acids on bacterial physiology, Andrew conducted postdoctoral research with Professor David Gally focusing on the virulence of the pathogen Escherichia coli O157:H7, known as the 'burger bug'. Throughout his career, Andrew has progressed within the Institute of Infection, Immunity & Inflammation, ultimately establishing his own research group focused on E. coli. His recent work has included the exploration of regulatory mechanisms governing virulence factors in enterohaemorrhagic E. coli. In 2018, Andrew was promoted to Professor and appointed Head of Bacteriology in 2020, where he is committed to supporting early-career researchers and fostering the next generation of microbiologists.
