Dr. Andrew Ryder

Biography

Andrew Ryder is a Professor of Psychology at Concordia University, specializing in Cultural-Clinical Psychology. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia, earned in 2005, and a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 1997. His academic work focuses on the intersection of cultural factors and emotional disorders, especially in East Asian societies such as China, Japan, and Korea. Ryder's research includes investigating the acculturation process among migrants and its implications for mental health, the development of assessment tools for cultural adaptation, and evidence-based psychological interventions in culturally diverse contexts. He has numerous publications discussing the cultural shaping of emotions and psychological symptoms in different populations. He is also involved in teaching various courses, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Cultural Psychology and Group Systemic Interventions. In addition, Ryder is a core member of the Centre for Clinical Research in Health (CCRH).
