Biography

Andrew Sanchez is a social anthropologist whose research focuses on economy, power, and working life, with a particular interest in race and decolonization. He joined the University of Cambridge in 2016 after teaching and conducting research at institutions such as the London School of Economics, the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, and the University of Kent. His ethnographic work primarily investigates urban India, studying industrial workers, trade unionists, and entrepreneurs, and critically examines issues of labour, corruption, violence, and racial dynamics. In 2016, he published his book 'Criminal Capital: Violence, Corruption and Class in Industrial India,' which delves into the relationship between changing employment regimes and criminality as influenced by corporations and political institutions. His ongoing research explores the transformative aspects of human nature within the realms of political and economic life. Sanchez is also compiling a new collection on Mixed-Race thought and its political implications.
