Biography

Andrew Scott is an Associate Professor at the London School of Economics. He graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil). He further completed his PhD from the University of Wales. He began his career with a senior lectureship at Norwich Law School, University of East Anglia. Scott took a position at the London School of Economics in 2006 and is currently the Assistant Director of the Executive LLM programme. His research interests include free speech, competition law, and media regulation. Scott has published extensively on the law surrounding free speech and newsgathering, including works such as 'Positive Free Speech: Rationales, Methods Implications' (Hart, 2020) and 'Newsgathering: Law, Regulation Public Interest' (Oxford University Press, 2016). He has also contributed chapters to various legal texts and edited volumes, focusing on the evolution of competition law in the UK and remedies in the context of media law. Scott has held numerous advisory roles, including serving on the Advisory Boards of both the Law Commission of Ontario and the Scottish Law Commission. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he is an International contributing editor for the Media & Arts Law Review and participates actively in law reform initiatives concerning defamation law.
