Biography

Andrew Serdy has been a faculty member at the University of Southampton since 2005, where he specializes in Public International Law with a particular focus on the Law of the Sea. He was promoted to Reader in 2011 and became a Personal Chair in 2015. Before his academic career, he practiced in the construction law section at Freehill, Hollingdale & Page in Sydney, now known as Herbert Smith Freehills, and served for 16 years in the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, specializing in Law of the Sea and Environmental Law. He has been actively involved as a legal adviser for Australian delegations at various international forums, including the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna and the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission. His research encompasses areas such as international fisheries law, maritime delimitation, and the institutional aspects of law regarding the sea. He has published extensively in these fields, including books and numerous peer-reviewed articles. Additionally, he teaches various modules on international law at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including International Law of the Sea and World Trade Organization Law.
