Biography

Andrew James Sillett is a Senior Researcher in Classical Education at the University of Oxford and a Stipendiary Lecturer at St Hilda's College. His academic background includes a MA, MSt, and DPhil from the University of Oxford. Sillett has a rich history of teaching, having started his career at Brasenose College in 2006, and has held various positions at St Hilda's College, including Departmental Lecturer in Latin Literature and Roman History from 2017 to 2023. His primary research interests focus on the life and works of the ancient Roman statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero, with his doctoral dissertation centered on the early reception of Cicero in the context of the early Empire, currently being prepared for publication by Oxford University Press. Sillett also teaches undergraduate courses on Latin literature and various papers on Roman history, alongside providing language classes in Greek and Latin, with a special focus on the literature and history of the late Roman Republic and early Empire.
