Biography

Andrew Smith is a Bioinformatician in the Genomics Bioinformatics Team at the Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research at Macquarie University. He completed his Master's in Clinical Bioinformatics from the University of Manchester in 2021 while undertaking the National Health Service (NHS) Scientist Training Program. During this time, he developed analytical pipelines for clinical use and supported clinical/laboratory teams by providing bioinformatics support. He also spent time working with Public Health Wales (PHW) as a Quality Lead in the Bioinformatics team, playing a vital role in accreditation services for providing COVID-19 bioinformatics analysis. Andrew's research focuses on the genomics of diseases, particularly in the context of motor neurone disease.
