Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Andrew Speirs. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Andrew Speirs is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering at Queen’s University, followed by a Master of Applied Science from the University of British Columbia, and a PhD from Carleton University. His research focuses on understanding biomechanics related to disease processes in the musculoskeletal system, with a particular focus on cartilage and osteoarthritis. His PhD research examined the changes in subchondral bone and cartilage associated with hip impingement and assessed the influence of these changes on cartilage tissue pressure stresses. Currently, he is developing methods to model cartilage dynamic simulations to study joint incongruity associated with arthritis. He is also studying quantitative MRI techniques for measuring cartilage composition and mechanical integrity, and exploring the potential role of ultrasound in diagnosing hip impingement.
