Biography

Andrew Mark Spencer is a Senior Tutor and Fellow in History at Gonville Caius College, University of Cambridge, and an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of History. He completed his undergraduate degree in History at King's College, London in 2002, and subsequently undertook an MPhil in Medieval History as well as a PhD at Peterhouse, Cambridge under the supervision of Professor Christine Carpenter, finishing in 2008. He has held positions working at the Houses of Parliament and served as a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow starting in 2010, which led him to a research fellowship at Corpus Christi College. His notable work includes the book "Nobility and Kingship in Medieval England: The Earls of Edward", published by Cambridge University Press in 2014, and he has edited volumes in the "Thirteenth Century England" series. His research continues to explore themes related to English politics, governance, and warfare during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, with a particular focus on 'bastard feudalism'. He is involved in teaching various subjects related to British and Medieval history at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
