Biography

Andrew Stawasz is a Michigan Faculty Fellow at the University of Michigan Law School. His teaching and research explore the values reflected in economic analyses that guide legal decision-making, especially in the context of agency benefit-cost analyses. Stawasz’s research is situated at the intersection of administrative law, environmental law, animal law, and law and economics. His scholarship focuses on how benefit-cost analysis often overlooks the effects of household work, species, and individuals in the future, and he suggests practical ways to bridge these often-unjustified gaps. His research draws on his experiences as an adviser in the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs during the Biden-Harris administration, as well as his time as a legal fellow at the Institute for Policy Integrity at New York University School of Law and as a research associate at the economic consulting firm Data Decisions LLC. His articles have appeared in journals such as the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform, Ecological Economics, PLOS Frontiers in Public Health, and Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal. Additionally, he has peer-review experience with the Journal of Benefit-Cost Analysis and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, and he is a member of the bars in New York and the 10th Circuit.
