Dr. Andrew Steane

Biography

Andrew Steane is a Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford, specializing in Quantum Information and Computation. His research interests encompass a range of areas, united by a common theme of elucidating basic principles and ideas within quantum physics and information science. He co-discovered quantum error correction and has initiated and contributed to ion trap quantum computing experiments at Oxford, under the leadership of Prof David Lucas and with collaboration from Dr Chris Ballance. Over the years, Prof Steane has also taken a keen interest in physics education, authoring textbooks aimed at undergraduate study and fostering self-study and deep understanding among students. He continues to push the boundaries in both theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum physics, contributing significantly to the field's evolution.
