Biography

Andrew James Tompkins, MD, is a General Urologist and Medical Educator at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. His clinical focus includes shared decision-making, evaluation, and management of benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and nocturia, employing a variety of surgical treatments and medical prevention strategies for kidney stones and prostate cancer screening. As an early adopter of minimally invasive surgical technologies, Dr. Tompkins offers treatments such as Rezum Thermotherapy, iTind, Urolift, and various laser procedures. He completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University and earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, graduating with honors. His residency in Urology was completed at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he was elected to the Sigma Xi scientific honors society. Dr. Tompkins is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Urology and has a strong interest in medical education, optimizing performance and wellness among physicians, and training in minimally invasive surgical techniques. He currently serves as Co-Director of the Urology Clerkship and is actively involved in teaching medical students, as well as providing patient care at the Providence VA Medical Center and Brown Urology.
