Dr. Andrew Toner

Biography

Andrew Toner is a highly accomplished Academic Anaesthetist affiliated with the Royal Perth Hospital and serves as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. He completed his undergraduate studies at Cambridge University, obtaining a medical degree from Oxford University and pursued anaesthetic training at St. George's School of Anaesthesia in London. Furthering his academic credentials, Dr. Toner earned a Doctor of Medicine research degree, equivalent to a PhD, from Cambridge University. His main research interests focus on improving outcomes in high-risk surgery, addressing chronic post-surgical pain, and exploring perioperative inflammation and autonomic function. He has been awarded significant grants for his work, including $4.3 million for the LOLIPOP Trial aimed at reducing chronic post-surgical pain following breast cancer surgery. Dr. Toner is the author of 30 publications, including three book chapters and several major reviews. His academic excellence has been recognized through multiple awards, including the Harry Daly Award for the highest ranked project grant from the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2018 and the Ralph Noble Prize for his clinical Doctor of Medicine thesis.
