Biography

Dr. Vardy completed a B.Eng. in electrical engineering with a focus on computers communications at Memorial University in 1999. He developed an interest in bio-inspired computing, which led him to complete an M.Sc. in evolutionary adaptive systems at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK. He continued his academic journey with a PhD in computer science from Carleton University in Ottawa, focusing his research on developing biologically plausible algorithms for robot visual homing. In 2005, he returned to Memorial University as an assistant professor, holding a joint appointment in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science as well as the Faculty of Science's Department of Computer Science. Dr. Vardy's main research interests revolve around swarm robotics and biologically inspired robotics. He teaches courses on autonomous robotics, computer programming, software design, and control systems.
