Andrew Walker is an Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow in Computational Geosciences at the University of Oxford. His research interests encompass a broad range of topics within computational geophysics and mineral physics, focusing particularly on simulating the consequences of imperfections in the crystal structure of Earth materials at multiple scales. Early in his career, he concentrated on atomic-scale simulations of minerals. Andrew's recent studies tackle larger geodynamical problems, linking global-scale mantle convection to the generation of textures in seismic anisotropy. His work bridges atomic-scale phenomena with whole mantle dynamics, incorporating elements of mineral physics, seismology, and geodynamics. Currently, his research projects include modeling the crystallization dynamics of the Earth’s inner core, a multidisciplinary approach to understanding upwelling mantle processes, and investigating the formation of pallasite meteorites. He balances his research commitments with undergraduate teaching responsibilities, instructing students in programming, mathematics, and statistics, as well as contributing to field teaching and supervising final year projects. Andrew also coordinates discussions on computational Earth sciences, fostering skill development among graduate students and researchers in the department.
