Dr. Andrey Vilesov

Biography

Andrey F. Vilesov obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from St. Petersburg State University in 1985. He moved to the Max Planck Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Göttingen, Germany in 1990, where he was part of research groups led by Prof. Christoph Ottinger and Prof. J. Peter Toennies. In 1999, he received habilitation in Physics from the University of Göttingen. His research focuses on the study of helium nano-droplets and their unique properties. In 2000, he became a Professor of Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. His work has significantly contributed to the understanding of quantum fluids and their behavior at the molecular level, utilizing techniques such as spectroscopy to explore molecular interactions within superfluid environments and to study isolated quantum fluids using x-ray free electron lasers.
