Biography

Andreza completed her PhD in Social Anthropology at the University of St Andrews and holds a master’s degree in social sciences jointly awarded by the University of Freiburg, Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban. She also completed her bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Brasilia. Her research focuses on Brazilian politics, particularly city governance, and she has worked at the University of Oxford, leading the Brazilian Studies Programme from 2018 to 2023. As a postdoctoral researcher, she contributed to the Urban Transformations portfolio at Oxford’s School of Anthropology, and has worked with Brazil’s Ministry of Social Development, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna, and the Brazilian Confederation of Municipalities. Andreza’s research interests include participatory governance, grassroots politics, subnational politics, political economy, and sustainable development with a focus on public policies related to health and employment. She employs a combination of quantitative and qualitative data to delve into the socio-economic contexts that influence political decision-making across Brazilian city governance.
