Biography

Andries Meijerink leads an active research group focused on the luminescence of inorganic solids. His research encompasses both the chemical synthesis of luminescent materials and the measurement (including laser spectroscopy) and modeling of their properties. Within his group, two distinct research lines are identified: Luminescence of rare earth ions, which aims at understanding the energy level structure and luminescence of rare earth ions and applying this knowledge for more efficient lighting, better solar cells, and faster scintillators. Optical spectroscopy of quantum dots, where the research focuses on understanding the size-dependent properties and applications of quantum dots as luminescent labels for bio-active molecules.
