Biography

Andrij Pich is a highly regarded researcher with expertise in synthesizing functional stimuli-responsive polymers and colloidal particles. His extensive work involves controlled chemical structure and morphology, focusing on molecular building blocks, monomers, and macromonomers developed for controlled synthesis of macromolecular-hybrid structures. His ongoing research projects concentrate on synthesizing stimuli-responsive reactive macromolecules defined by their chemical structure and architecture, utilizing controlled radical polymerizations such as RAFT and ATRP. Additionally, he studies the synthesis of tailored nano- and microgels with controlled size and stimuli-responsiveness. Pich is also devoted to designing interactive polymer-based materials, including fibers, thin films, and composites using polymers and microgels as functional building blocks. These materials target various applications including catalysis, biomaterials, plant care, and functional coatings. In 2009, he was appointed Lichtenberg Professor of Functional Interactive Polymers at RWTH Aachen University. In 2019, he became a professor of Biobased Polymers at Maastricht University after a distinguished academic journey that includes a PhD from the Technical University of Dresden and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto. Dr. Pich has consistently focused on the synthesis of functional stimuli-responsive polymers and their application in creating innovative materials.
