Biography

Andriy Talpash is an active composer, conductor, and educator based at the University of Alberta. Over the years, he has composed works for numerous ensembles and soloists, including Calgary's Ensemble Resonance, Rubbing Stone Ensemble, Continuum Contemporary Music, and Ensemble contemporain de Montréal. His works have been performed not only in Canada but also in the United States, Europe, Brazil, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. Talpash has received several grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. He has also been recognized with awards such as the SOCAN Young Composers Competition in 2000 and the Sir Ernest Macmillan prize for orchestral composition. Notably, he represented Canada at UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers in Vienna in June 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Music, a Master of Music, and a Doctor of Music degrees in composition from the University of Alberta and McGill University, where he studied under prominent composers. Since 2005, he has been teaching courses in music composition, theory, and orchestration at the University of Alberta.
