Dr. Andy Aydın Aitchison

Biography

Andy Aydın-Aitchison is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Edinburgh, where he has been teaching since 2006. He is affiliated with both the School of Social and Political Science and the School of Law since 2012. Andy holds degrees from the University of Edinburgh and Cardiff University, encompassing Criminology, Politics, and Modern History. He has held various leadership roles in postgraduate teaching and external relations, including serving as the Postgraduate Research Director in the School of Law. He has been actively involved in cross-school MSc programs focusing on Global Crime, Justice and Security. In addition to mentoring early-career researchers and supervising doctoral students, Andy's research interests lie in the fields of criminology, atrocity crimes, and policing, particularly concerning governance and democracy. He is currently engaged in exploring issues related to wartime detention camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the international criminal justice system. His collaborations extend to colleagues in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands. He has contributed to scholarly discussions through various publications, including a chapter on criminology and atrocity crimes in the recent Oxford Handbook of Criminology.
