Biography

Andy Buckley is a particle physicist at the University of Glasgow, where he holds a position as a lecturer and is a Royal Society research fellow. He leads the Glasgow ScotDIST centre for doctoral training and is heavily involved in experimental studies with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. His research focuses on the modeling of hadron collisions and understanding the workings of the Standard Model of particle physics, including detailed studies of Higgs boson and beyond-Standard-Model physics. With interests in QCD (Quantum Chromodynamics) interactions and heavy-quark physics, he has contributed significantly to computational methods in high-energy physics (HEP). As a leader of Rivet and other collaborations, he dedicates his expertise to improving simulation tools for particle physics research. His work involves the application of machine learning techniques and computational statistics to enhance the analysis preservation and reinterpretation of LHC data. Buckley is an active member of multiple advisory panels and has participated in various outreach initiatives to engage the public with particle physics.
