Andy Connolly's work focuses on using large surveys to study the cosmological evolution of galaxies. His research includes studying the clustering of galaxies, the evolution of galaxies across redshift, weak gravitational lensing of galaxies, and estimating properties of galaxies based on their colors, commonly referred to as photometric redshifts. A common theme in his work is addressing the challenges associated with massive data sets and utilizing them effectively. He has significant interests in the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) and has played a lead role in the development of simulations for LSST observations. Connolly is also interested in how technologies developed by companies can be utilized to enhance the research and educational experiences in astronomy. Notably, during a sabbatical a couple of years ago, he contributed to the creation of “Google Sky.”
