Dr. Andy Hardman

Biography

Andy Hardman is a senior lecturer in Creative Cultural Practices at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD in Art History and Visual Studies from the same institution, where his doctoral research investigated the relationship between artist mythologies and the preservation of studio spaces for exhibition purposes. His teaching portfolio includes optional modules such as 'Curating Art' and 'Creative Producing Managing Projects,' as well as core courses like 'Introduction to Museum Studies' and 'Arts Management, Policy, and Practice.' He contributes to various MA courses in the fields of Art Gallery and Museum Studies, Arts Management, and International Heritage Management. Andy's research interests encompass filmmaking in museums, critical practices in creative research, professional engagement, and curatorial methodologies. He is also active in producing digital content for major art exhibitions and has co-authored a book, 'Museum Filmmaking: Applied Film in the Socially Engaged Museum,' set to be published in 2026 by Routledge. In addition to his academic role, Andy runs a film production company, Belle Vue, which collaborates with various cultural partners to create audio-visual content that engages with the heritage sector. His ongoing projects include longitudinal studies on museum reimagining and exploring the histories of disability within National Trust properties.
