Biography

I received my MA in Mathematics and PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Cambridge. Following my doctorate, I held postdoctoral positions at the University of Maryland and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) before joining the School of Physics at the University of Bristol. I have served as the Chair of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Group from 2014 to 2017, and as the School Education Director from 2017 to 2023. Currently, I am a Council member of the Royal Astronomical Society since 2024. My research interests focus on black holes, their nature, and their perfect macroscopic structures in the universe. I explore how black holes impact their environments and the high-energy astrophysics associated with them. This includes phenomena such as accretion, orbits, and outflows near black holes. My group conducts studies on these systems using a combination of numerical simulations and X-ray multi-wavelength observations, while also looking into gravitational wave signatures of binary black hole systems. I lead the work package on Innermost Accretion Flow Science within the Time-domain Analysis project that studies the life-cycle evolution of supermassive black holes.
