Biography

Anees Chagpar is a full Professor in the Department of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. Born and raised in Canada, he completed a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biochemistry and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Alberta, followed by a General Surgery residency and a Master of Science at the University of Saskatchewan. His career includes prestigious fellowships such as the Susan G. Komen Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health. He joined the University of Louisville as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, quickly advancing to Associate Professor and Academic Advisory Dean. He built a nationally accredited Breast Center at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center before being recruited to Yale in September 2010, where he led efforts to establish it as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with a nationally accredited breast center. Dr. Chagpar is also the director of an interdisciplinary breast fellowship, and a section editor at UpToDate. In 2014, he graduated at the top of his class with an MBA from Yale’s School of Management. He has received numerous accolades, including the Joan Giambalvo Award for Advancement of Women and continues to teach negotiation skills to faculty and trainees.
