Aneesh Vincent Veluthandath is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Integrated Photonic Devices Lab in the Optoelectronics Research Centre, since December 2019. His primary research focuses on developing low-cost single-use photonic platforms aimed at the rapid diagnosis of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. This work combines the strengths of mid-infrared Raman spectroscopy with the goal of creating a compact, versatile, and easily operable device, which has the potential to underpin future biomedical diagnostics applications. Additionally, he works on high-Q microcavities with applications in low-threshold lasing and nonlinear signal conversion. Aneesh holds a PhD in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he explored the effects of whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in microspheres, along with photoluminescence and Raman scattering from quantum dots and 2D semiconductors. He invented a simple yet robust method for self-assembling polymer micro-bottle resonators. Following his PhD, he continued as a postdoctoral researcher at IIT Madras, focusing on photonic-plasmonic hybrid resonators, and later joined the IFW Institute for Integrative Nanosciences at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research in Dresden, where he worked on rolled-up microcavities and designed integrated experimental systems for simultaneous measurements of angle-resolved photoluminescence and transmission spectra.
