Angel Xuan Chang is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University, where he conducted research in the Natural Language Processing Group under the guidance of Chris Manning. Chang's research focuses on connecting language with 3D representations, particularly how shapes and scenes can ground language for embodied agents in indoor environments. He has extensive experience in synthesizing 3D scenes from natural language descriptions and has developed datasets aimed at enhancing 3D scene understanding. Furthermore, he is involved in using machine learning techniques for biodiversity monitoring, notably through the BIOSCAN project that incorporates DNA barcodes to facilitate the understanding of ecosystems. Chang’s interests also extend to the intersection of art and technology, exploring how dance can inform discussions on embodied AI.
