Biography

Ángel García is the author of Indifferent Cities (Tupelo Press) and the inaugural winner of the Helena Whitehill Book Award. His collection Teeth Sleep (University of Arkansas Press) won the CantoMundo Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the American Book Award and the PEN America Open Book Award. He has received the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and his work has been published in various literary journals, including American Poetry Review, McSweeney's, and Crab Orchard Review. García has been awarded fellowships from Community Writers, CantoMundo, Vermont Studio Center, and MacDowell. He is a proud son of Mexican immigrants and is dedicated to educating and empowering communities through grassroots organizing. García is currently an Assistant Professor in the English Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he teaches creative writing courses.
