Dr. Angel Hwang

Biography

Angel Hsing-Chi Hwang is an assistant professor at USC Annenberg, specializing in human-AI interaction (HAII). Her research investigates the societal impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on work practices across various applied domains, including small-group teamwork, content production, and mental healthcare services. Hwang's work aims to provide implications for practitioners in designing, building, and applying AI-powered technologies for future work environments. She utilizes a diverse range of research methods, including behavioral experiments, computational content analysis, and qualitative approaches, to explore innovative combinations of methodologies that effectively project the impact of AI applications alongside large-scale deployments. Prior to her role at USC, Hwang earned her Ph.D. in communication from Cornell University, with a concentration in human-computer interaction, and completed postdoctoral training at Cornell's Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. Her academic journey is complemented by rich experiences in researching state-of-the-art AI within renowned research sectors of the tech industry, including positions at Microsoft Research, Google Research, Sony AI, Adobe, and Accenture Labs.
