Biography

Born and raised in Montreal, Angela Alberga completed her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a Minor in Psychology at Concordia University. She later earned her Master's and PhD degrees from the University of Ottawa in Human Kinetics, specializing in exercise physiology. Dr. Alberga has received the Canadian Diabetes Association Doctoral Research Award for her work focused on improving cardiometabolic health among children and adolescents with obesity through exercise. Her research is dedicated to understanding and addressing harmful weight-based stigma, as well as fostering weight discrimination reduction in society. She has been awarded the Eyes High Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Banting Canadian Institutes of Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship, enabling her research on weight stigma reduction within educational and healthcare settings, as well as public policy initiatives. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Alberga has worked with children, youth, and adults in various capacities, including roles as a camp counselor, educator, mentor, coach, instructor, and clinical exercise physiologist within the academic community in Canada.
