Biography

Angela Baerwald completed her PhD in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan, after which she pursued a postdoctoral fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa. She has worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has extensive training in Family Medicine, including a residency at the University of Saskatchewan. Currently, she is a clinician scientist in the Department of Academic Family Medicine and is also an associate member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her general practice focuses on women's health, low-risk infertility, and low-risk obstetrics. Dr. Baerwald’s research is centered on characterizing changes in ovarian and uterine structure and function during spontaneous menstrual cycles and hormonal contraceptive cycles, as well as ovulation induction and the transition to menopause. She utilizes innovative high-resolution ovarian imaging tools such as 3D/4D ultrasonography and ultrasound biomicroscopy synchrotron. Collaboratively, Dr. Baerwald and her colleagues have characterized multiple waves of follicular growth during the menstrual cycle, leading to the development of novel ovarian stimulation therapies, including random start double ovarian stimulation, which has been adopted globally.
