Angela Bowen is a Professor Emeritus with extensive experience in clinical practice, education, and administration in Women’s Medical Mental Health. Her research focuses on understanding the mental health of mothers and vulnerable women, where she has successfully integrated her areas of expertise. Angela has held several local, provincial, and national funding grants for research projects aimed at improving the health of mothers and families. Though retired, she continues to co-lead a provincial working group that developed policy recommendations to address gaps related to maternal mental health. This initiative led to the designation of Maternal Mental Health Day in Saskatchewan, which coincides with World Maternal Mental Health Day. Angela has also been involved in projects aimed at improving Indigenous mothers’ access to culturally secure childbirth in Saskatchewan, as well as past projects in Australia. Currently, she is consulting with a northern Nation to develop a free-standing birthing centre. She deeply values the mentoring of her 30 graduate students and is a prolific presenter and author of refereed articles, book chapters, and knowledge translation activities related to maternal health, proudly contributing to the body of knowledge in this vital field. Additionally, she is a mother and grandmother, having authored the book 'Today’s Grandmother: Guide Years.'
