Biography

Angela Dixon is an assistant professor in the Learning Sciences at the School of Education and Social Policy with a joint appointment at the Pritzker School of Law at Northwestern University. Her research investigates the lives of individuals who have experienced the loss of loved ones, examining the health and socioeconomic impacts of premature death. Dixon explores patterns of inequality and how conceptualizations of race, ethnicity, skin color, and discrimination shape stratification in societies. Her work has received support from awarders such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Spencer Foundation, and the Russell Sage Foundation. Prior to joining Northwestern, Dixon was an assistant professor of sociology at Emory University and a David E. Bell Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She earned her doctorate in sociology with a concentration in social policy and demography from Princeton University and received her bachelor's degree in psychology with a major in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
