Dr. Angela Facundo

Biography

Angela Facundo teaches a range of themes and histories related to literary theory. Her scholarly work is specifically focused on queer theory, psychoanalysis, and Holocaust Studies, exploring the search for antidotes to humanity’s inescapable tendency towards fascism. Her research examines the relationship between sexuality and knowledge formation, the institutionalization of narratives, and attachment to texts and versions of the self. Facundo’s current project addresses the questions of 'investment' in exploring the relationship between literature and empathy, with special attention to narratives of catastrophe in contemporary fiction. Authors she focuses on include Kazuo Ishiguro, Emily St. John Mandel, Dionne Brand, Alison Bechdel, and Ali Smith. She has been trained at the Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis and is a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice.
