Dr. Angela Kaida

Biography

Angela Kaida is a global health epidemiologist whose research focuses on the linkages between HIV and sexual and reproductive health. She received her PhD in 2010 from the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and completed a brief post-doctoral fellowship at the Women's Health Research Institute at BC Women's Hospital in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UBC. She has significant experience as a public health practitioner, having worked with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Alberta Ministry of Health and Wellness, as well as Capital Health Authority's Public Health Division. Angela joined the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University as an Assistant Professor in September 2010 and held the Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Global Perspectives on HIV and Sexual Reproductive Health from 2012 to 2022. Her research is recognized for its innovative mixed-method studies centered on a rights-based, evidence-informed, and community-driven approach to sexual and reproductive health in the context of HIV. This includes examining fertility intentions and demand for safer conception services among HIV-positive individuals in Uganda, HIV prevention strategies for youth in South Africa, and the impacts of women-centered HIV care on health outcomes for women living with HIV in Canada. She is dedicated to inter-disciplinary research that integrates various research methodologies, collaborating with local, national, and global partners.
