Professor Angela Knapp is a Chemical Oceanographer studying marine nutrient cycling. Her overarching theme of research focuses on identifying and quantifying the dominant sources of nutrients that fuel new export production, particularly in oligotrophic marine systems. She employs geochemical tools to work across a range of physical scales, engaging in physiological studies of phytoplankton and conducting ocean basin-scale projects to quantify the fluxes of nitrogen and phosphorus in the ocean. Currently, she leads a seven-principal investigator, NSF-funded project in the Gulf of Mexico and serves on the GEOTRACES Steering Committee Leadership team, which is part of an NSF-funded Research Coordination Network studying Aquatic Nitrogen Fixation.
