Biography

Angela D. R. Smith is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin's iSchool. Her research focuses on human-computer interaction, computer-supported cooperative work, and information sciences. Currently, she is investigating how to equitably design sociotechnical interventions that support the information work of homeless young adults in shelter networks. Angela utilizes community-based participatory research and participatory design methods to construct knowledge and design interventions for marginalized populations. Her interdisciplinary work incorporates concepts from information poverty, strength-based approaches, critical race theory, and intersectionality. Prior to earning her Ph.D. in Technology & Social Behavior from Northwestern University in 2021, Angela gained experience as a Consultant, Cybersecurity Analyst, and UX Researcher in various startups, including Airbnb.
