Dr. Angela Watson

Biography

Angela R. Watson is an Assistant Research Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Education, where her work focuses on the impact of schooling on learning, with a particular emphasis on homeschooling and informal learning options as they relate to academic and social-emotional outcomes. She is the creator of the Homeschool Hub and the director of the Homeschool Research Lab, which is part of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy. Watson has published extensively in scholarly journals such as Education Researcher, the Journal of Human Resources, and Politics & Policy, and her work has been featured in reputable media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. She has also written book chapters on topics including promise programs, homeschooling, and learning pods. Additionally, Watson has served as a peer reviewer for various academic journals and conferences, as well as a grant reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts. She earned her Ph.D. in education policy from the Department of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, where she researched the effects of arts-related field trips on students’ academic, cultural, and social-emotional outcomes. Watson also holds a Master of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education, and a graduate certificate in STEM education.
