Angelika Grundling is a Professor of Molecular Microbiology at Imperial College London, where she commenced her independent research career in 2007. Her research focuses on investigating the fundamental processes essential for the growth of Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. She employs a combination of genetic, biochemical, and structural approaches to provide mechanistic insights into cell wall synthesis and nucleotide signaling pathways involved in bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes. Angelika obtained her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Vienna in 2000 and completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, where she researched flagellar motility in Listeria monocytogenes. She later ventured to the University of Chicago to study cell wall properties of S. aureus. Currently at Imperial College London, she continues her work on bacterial cell wall and the essential signaling nucleotide c-di-AMP.
