Dr. Angelo Demarzo

Biography

Angelo Michael DeMarzo is a renowned professor of pathology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He functions as the Deputy Director of Anatomic Pathology and is the Co-Director of the Immunohistochemistry Lab at Johns Hopkins Hospital. DeMarzo’s impressive academic background includes earning his MD and PhD in experimental pathology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He completed his residency in pathology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and thereafter took on a fellowship at the Brady Urological Institute. His research primarily focuses on prostate cancer, particularly its molecular pathobiology, biomarker development, and biospecimen banking. Notable contributions include identifying Proliferative Inflammatory Atrophy (PIA) as a potential precursor to prostate cancer and uncovering genomic alterations in precursor lesions. DeMarzo’s lab is engaged in translational research, collaborating closely with several noted researchers at Johns Hopkins to advance the understanding of prostate cancer progression.
