Biography

Angelos Michaelides is a prominent figure in the field of Theoretical Chemistry, having obtained his PhD from Queen's University of Belfast in 2000. His career includes roles as a postdoctoral research associate and junior research fellow at the University of Cambridge, and as a research fellow at the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin. He was the founding Director of the Materials Molecular Modelling Hub and has served as Director and Co-Director of the Thomas Young Centre from 2006 to 2020 at University College London. In 2020, he joined the University of Cambridge as a Professor in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry. Michaelides' research focuses on computer simulations of catalytic and environmental interfaces, aimed at achieving a deeper understanding of fundamental processes at these interfaces. He actively seeks to improve current simulation methods, including both quantum and classical approaches. Additionally, he encourages talented students to join his research group for master’s and PhD projects, as well as postdoctoral opportunities.
