Biography

Angus is an interdisciplinary scholar interested in the politics of transformative change within twenty-first century capitalism. He joined the Department of International Development at King’s College London from the University of Greenwich in 2024. His research examines the relations between Left Power, state-social movements, and the political economy of development in Latin America, focusing particularly on natural resource-led development and energy transitions. Angus published a monograph, 'Power: Politics of Passive Revolution in Twenty-First Century Bolivia', with the University of Pittsburgh Press in 2023. He is currently writing a book on the economic history of Bolivia and conducting research projects addressing various themes, including the interaction of meat production and finance in Bolivia, extraction issues, the politics of the green transition, and knowledge production in postcolonial spaces. His research has made significant contributions to international scholarly debates on energy transitions, climate change mitigation, and politics of development in contemporary Latin America. Additionally, he has developed a novel methodological approach for studying green transitions while collaborating with scholars across the Atlantic, which examines the connections of trade finance to the extractive financial frontiers of the Global South.
