Biography

Anika Ganness is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). She completed her Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Toronto. Prior to her doctorate, she worked as a Global Child Protection Officer with one of the world’s leading child rights organizations, which allowed her to integrate substantial public policy expertise into her scholarship. Ganness’s research focuses on Public Policy, Canadian Politics, and Comparative Politics, with a particular interest in how states and political actors exercise governing power and the resultant equity outcomes, especially for marginalized peoples. Currently, she is examining the phenomenon of racial immigrant disproportionality in Canada’s child welfare sector, an area that has been under-researched in political science. Ganness also teaches courses related to public policy and Canadian politics within the Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) program and the Politics and Governance (BA) undergraduate program at TMU.
