Biography

Anil Abraham Joy is a Professor in the Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta, specializing in Medical Oncology. He has held the role of Staff Medical Oncologist at the Cross Cancer Institute since 2003. His prior positions include Chair of the Northern Alberta Breast Cancer Program and Provincial Chair of the Alberta Breast Cancer Program. Dr. Joy has contributed to various committees, including the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health, now known as the Canadian Drug Agency, where he served on the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee. As the current Research Lead for the Breast Cancer Program at the Cross Cancer Institute, his focus includes clinical translational research in breast and thoracic malignancies. He is an advocate for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship issues. Over his career, Dr. Joy has secured numerous research grants and initiated collaborations with basic science and clinical researchers, leading to over 140 published works. His ongoing research interests include therapeutic pharmaceuticals, lifestyle interventions, medical education, and addressing disparities in global oncology.
