Biography

Anima Anandkumar has made significant contributions to the AI field, particularly in scientific modeling and discovery. She invented Neural Operators that facilitate the learning of multiscale phenomena in nature, including fluid dynamics and material modeling. This innovative approach has allowed for the development of AI-based high-resolution weather models that operate tens of thousands of times faster than traditional physics-based forecasting models, thereby benefiting premier weather agencies. Her research also includes advancements in modeling plasma evolution for nuclear fusion, which supports safer autonomous drone flights, as well as the design of novel medical devices and functional enzymes. Throughout her career, Prof. Anandkumar has led the development of tensor methods, probabilistic latent variable models, and non-convex optimization analysis. She is a fellow of several prestigious organizations including IEEE, ACM, and AAAI. Anima has received numerous awards, such as the Time 100 Impact Award and the IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award, and has been recognized for her impactful research with awards from the Guggenheim and Blavatnik Foundations. Her work has been presented at notable platforms including the White House Science Council and TED 2024.
