Biography

Aniruddhan Vasudevan is a sociocultural anthropologist with a keen interest in the intersections of religion, gender, sexuality, and ethics. His current research focuses on the moral creativity of thirunangai transgender women in southern India, particularly their devotional practices towards the goddess Angalamman. Vasudevan is completing a book project that explores the negotiation of relationships within the thirunangai community and their engagement with wider social dynamics. His published works include significant articles in 'Men & Masculinities,' examining language ethics, as well as contributions to edited volumes discussing religious and ethical dimensions in South Asia. In addition to research, he is involved in teaching core anthropology courses at Princeton University and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Advanced Study in Nantes, France.
