Biography

Anisa Assifi is a Research Fellow at the SPHERE, NHMRC funded Centre of Research Excellence in Sexual and Reproductive Health for Women in Primary Care, Department of General Practice, Monash University. She is a public health researcher with a keen interest in sexual and reproductive health, especially in areas such as abortion and adolescent health. Anisa worked on abortion research for over 10 years at the World Health Organization in Geneva and focused on safe abortion care. She earned her PhD from the University of Technology Sydney in 2021. Her prior research experience includes work at the Karolinska Institute, focusing on sexually transmitted infections (STI), HIV, and sexual and reproductive health capacity building in humanitarian crises. Anisa's current research is concentrated on adolescents' access to sexual reproductive healthcare within community pharmacy settings, where she serves as the Project Manager for the ALLIANCE Trial, a pragmatic cluster randomized trial designed to enhance pharmacists’ ability to deliver person-centered, effective contraceptive counseling services. Her expertise aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and contributes to global health initiatives aimed at improving reproductive health services. Anisa holds a Master of Public Health (Sexual Health) and a Bachelor of Science (Anatomy, Reproduction Development) from the University of Melbourne.
