Biography

Anish Agarwal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at Columbia University. His research focuses on designing and analyzing methods for causal machine learning and applying these methods to critical problems in social engineering systems. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was advised by Alberto Abadie, Munther Dahleh, and Devavrat Shah. His dissertation earned him recognition with the INFORMS George B. Dantzig thesis award (2nd place) and the ACM SIGMETRICS outstanding thesis award (2nd place). Before joining Columbia University, Anish was a postdoctoral scientist at Amazon in the Core AI division and a fellow at the Simons Institute at UC Berkeley. Additionally, he has served as a technical consultant for TauRx Therapeutics and Uber Technologies, providing expertise on experiment design and causal inference. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group.
