Dr. Anita Allen

Biography

Anita L. Allen is the Henry R. Silverman Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and is a professor emeritus of philosophy. She is recognized for her scholarly work in Constitutional Law, Civil Rights, Jurisprudence, Ethics, and Bioethics. Allen has significantly contributed to the fields of professional responsibility, social justice, and African American philosophy. In 2010-2017, she served on President Obama's Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues. Allen has held various prestigious positions, including serving as the president of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association and engaging as a visiting professor at numerous esteemed institutions such as Harvard Law School and Yale Law School. Her work reflects a profound commitment to the intersections of law and public affairs, as well as an extensive teaching career that includes faculty positions at both Georgetown Law Center and the University of Pittsburgh Law School. She has also practiced law at the prestigious firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore and has been actively involved in numerous academic and professional organizations.
